Delta is the only airline I fly, and this just makes me MORE proud of my favorite airline.
Delta is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, where some of the anti-gay legislation is taking place. It’s a big stand for a major airline to take in a mostly conservative state.
These horrible new measures could allow a business to turn away customers because they are gay, which may be against the owners’ religious beliefs. This is happening in Georgia, Arizona and a few other traditionally conservative states. And it needs to STOP.
They took a LOUD stand against the anti-gay legislation posing as a “religious freedom” bill today. Here’s the full text of their statement:
“As a global values-based company, Delta Air Lines is proud of the diversity of its customers and employees, and is deeply concerned about proposed measures in several states, including Georgia and Arizona, that would allow businesses to refuse service to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals. If passed into law, these proposals would cause significant harm to many people and will result in job losses. They would also violate Delta’s core values of mutual respect and dignity shared by our 80,000 employees worldwide and the 165 million customers we serve every year. Delta strongly opposes these measures and we join the business community in urging state officials to reject these proposals.“

More businesses should take this stand. It is never okay to deny anyone entry to a business or any establishment because of color, gender, religion, sexual orientation or ANY matter at all. This oppression must stop. America MUST begin to learn from the past.
