What’s Next For Me

It’s taken me a little bit to write this post, but I’m happy to share news with you all about what’s happening with me. It’s good to explain a little of what’s going on!

As you all know, I’m a southern girl. I love cities, but ultimately like smaller towns where I can drive around and live a more normal life other than taking a subway everywhere and walking around under skyscrapers. I’m not the kind of person who’s always in a rush and doesn’t want to talk to anyone. New York City has been a good experience over the past year, but I’m ready to say goodbye.

Having a 3 hour commute EVERY SINGLE DAY for a year is quite draining. Spending $500 on commuting costs every month is also quite draining for my bank account as a new professional. I needed to make a change. This year one of my words is “intentional” and I really want to do something I really, honestly love that’s closer to home so I’m fully utilizing all my time.

1503216_676465232376973_92638497_nI also want to spend more time with my family, Jarrett and Lanie. They’re my everything and I truly believe in a work-life balance and integration. I’ll be able to spend 3 more hours a day closer to home and I’m so happy!

I’m also taking a break from a lot of things. I really intend to spend my time intentionally with my family and friends this year. The only family I have left is my brother and my mom. My friends are like my family too and it’s important to me to continue to grow those close relationships with the people who have supported me through everything.

So although I’m leaving the city and will be spending more time around Stamford and my family, I’m so very thankful for the friends, connections and opportunities I had in the city! It really was a great time for a year, but it’s not my city and it’s not a right fit for me. I love visiting NYC and will still continue to visit since it’s somewhat close, so that will still be nice.

Right now, I’m going to do what’s best for me and take a break from spending so much time online and so much time doing digital things. I want to focus on finding a job I truly love where I can make a difference or a job that’s so different that it really allows me the best opportunities to grow and learn. Politics and public affairs are sounding good right now… and I may join a campaign later this year! Who knows where I’ll end up, but I’m excited to see what happens and know it’s going to be right when it does.

So in conclusion:

  • I’m leaving NYC!
  • I’m working (later) AND living in our home of Stamford, CT!
  • I’m excited about new, open opportunities!
  • I’m volunteering and giving back!
  • I’m spending my time intentionally this year!

Thanks for ALL your support and for following my new professional journey so far. Hopefully this clears up a few things & it’s all the truth about what’s really going on. This is only beginning of my successful professional journey and I look forward to seeing what happens in MANY years to come. It’s going to be great!

My dearest ambition in life: to be happy.

be-intentional

  1. Proud of you Lauren. I too have made a lot of changes recently, professionally, and I get how freeing and terrifying it can be. I have zero doubt, however, that you will find a ton of happiness in this new direction you’re taking forward. Good luck! (Also, it’s about time you start talking about doing public affairs!)

    1. Thanks so much Jon! It’s absolutely terrifying and I have no idea what’s going to happen, but I hope I find a ton of happiness too. I really would love to do public affairs, so we will see! :]

  3. Definitely proud of you for following your heart. Sometimes you have to make that bold leap and you’ll find that along the way come affirmations that you made the right choice.

    Happy that you’re happy!

  4. That’s great, I too don’t feel comfortable with the big city vibe. I really like the calmness of where I’m from. I chose to move back to my hometown last year so now I commute 2 hours a day roundtrip to Los Angeles for work.

  5. Congrats Lauren! It takes a strong person to be honest about what you need and want out of life & your career. Anything you do will undoubtedly be awesome! I had convinced myself I had to be in NYC to be successful, and I am thankfully finding out how untrue that is. Warm wishes!

    1. Thanks so much for reading! I always try to be honest, no matter how much it may scare me. I hope it works out too & you definitely don’t have to be in NYC to be successful. Best of luck to you as well!
