I’m participating in #Reverb13, which is a reflective writing challenge in December to look back over the past year. This will be my third year participating! You can learn more about the Reverb challenges and see the daily prompts here. I participate to share more about myself and to have a written reflection of the year for myself.
Living life on auto-pilot can feel disorienting and dull. How did you cultivate a life worth loving during 2013?
How can you turn off your auto-pilot button in 2014?
I think I definitely took some risks in 2013. I became more politically active and shared more of myself with friends, acquaintances and my social media outlets. That was very new for me. I also went on a cruise to Mexico with Jarrett, something I had always wanted to do. Adopting Lanie was definitely one of the things that made my year in 2013. Overall I didn’t lead too many adventures, but I am very happy with Jarrett and with our little family! I really learned how to turn myself off from technology in the evenings. It was SO rewarding to not be online at night! I got to spend more time actually IN my life that way.
In 2014: I want to take more time to travel more. I really like weekend trips and I know Jarrett and I want to visit Canada, Vermont, New Hampshire, Boston and who knows where else in 2014! That will be very fun for us and I hope Jarrett takes more Sundays off so we can make trips (he works Sundays). I will continue to spend more time with friends and with my little family. I would like to watch less TV and get more active in 2014. I love going home and watching TV at night, but I want to make nights more fun with Jarrett than just watching TV. I also hope to spend more time with friends and visit my brother in Oregon. That will make life for me!
I also want to start building toward the career path I want. I’m still not 100% sure what I want to do. I like community management, but that’s not the type of career I will always want. I’m looking into customer experience, research, politics, activism, etc. Who knows where I may end up eventually!
