This is not your typical princess and prince true love kind of movie, and I absolutely loved it (as did Jarrett)! We all love a good true love come true story, but it's a bit overdone. Frozen is Disney's latest movie about two princesses who are sisters, Elsa, the eldest child of the King and Queen of Arendelle, has the power to freeze things and Anna, the younger sister who admires her big sister.
Elsa accidentally harms Anna with her powers to control ice and snow, Anna is made to forget Elsa has powers and Elsa spends the rest of her childhood + young adulthood trying to control her icy powers. The Queen and King die during a trip and the girls are left alone (Disney kids are always missing either one or both parents for some reason).
Time passes and the girls grow up and apart, but they're still sisters and Anna wants desperately to be close to Elsa again. The day comes for Elsa to be crowned queen and she opens the castle gates to the public once again. Elsa gets angry and finds herself incapable of controlling her powers around people. She runs off to seclude herself in an icy fortress she created and as she leaves, her powers freeze Arendelle.
Then of course Anna sets off on an epic journey to return Elsa to Arendelle, meets a guy along the way, the journey is much harder than it seems, Elsa accidentally harms Anna again due to her fear and anger, a huge storm erupts later and only an act of "true love" can save Anna as her heart freezes.
I loved this movie so much because it was not about a princess who is saved by a prince charming, but about a different kind of true love and the bond that sisters share. In the end, Elsa’s one true love was her little sister, Anna, because no matter what had happened between them, they were still sisters.
Anna proved to be a brave princess, and anything but delicate, who is willing to put others before herself. Disney defines a different kind of true love with this movie instead of the usual. Of course, Anna does end up with Kristoff (her mountain man), but that's a good thing too! Welcome to 2013 Disney, where it's not about the relationship between a woman and a man, but other types of relationships.
It was really nice to see a different twist from Disney and I know everyone hopes to see more movies like this one. This one will really melt you heart!
Have you seen Frozen yet? What did you think of this new type of Disney movie?
