What Successful People Do With The First Hour Of Their Work Day – Be Thankful
Fast Company just produced this article yesterday titled “What Successful People Do With The First Hour Of Their Workday” and it’s really had an impact on me this morning.
According to the article, part of my morning should consist of “10 minutes of thinking of everything you’re grateful for: in yourself, among your family and friends, in your career, and the like.”
I’ve been going through a little rough patch and sometimes it’s really hard to be grateful and thankful for what I do have – but it’s something I always need to remember and reflect on.
Things I’m thankful for:
My loving, caring boyfriend: Jarrett. He’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a companion and I have no clue where I would be without him. I always want to strive to be better for him every single day. Even though we’re different, he’s still the better half of me and the best human being I know. I love him so much and he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. All relationships have hard times, but you work through them for someone who is 10000% worth it and someone you know you want to spend the rest of your life with.
My brother: Caleb. When I’m down, when I have questions, when I need to talk, when I see random things, etc, I know I can always talk to Caleb. He’s always there and always has the best advice. We don’t have a big family, but he is my family and I appreciate him and love him to death.
My father. Although it seemed we had as short time together as he passed away when I was just 14, I was very thankful and still am to have had such a loving father while he was still with us.
My mother. We haven’t always had the easiest relationship, but especially in the past few years, she’s been there for me and Caleb when we needed her and she genuinely cares for our well-being and how we are. She’s a great mother who is always willing to learn more and go the distance for her family. I really admire her strength.
My amazing friends, including my closest friends Amy, Catherine, Alicia, Drew, Ian, Tara, Haley, Vanessa and more. Sometimes I can be the worst person to keep in touch with others, but I really do try with the people who are really important to me in my life. They’re always there when I need them and we’ve all had some really great times together. They’re everything to me and I appreciate them and their support all the time.
My starting career. I really do love being PRSSA President and I’m very thankful for the experiences I have had job wise and internship wise. I’ve been very blessed with some great work experience and hope things continue along this path.
Struggles and hardships. I’ve been through some pretty rough things and had some pretty hard times. I think it’s these struggles that really do make us stronger. It’s so hard to see when you’re going through them, but time does help heal and the hard times make us better.
God. I always struggle with my faith and with religion in general, but I am thankful that God is there looking out and He always sends the right things and people to me when I need it. Just this morning, I got an “Encouragement For Today” email I really needed. It’s a daily spiritual reading and it really did help me this morning.
This has been a good reflection time for me this morning.
I panic a lot about quite a few things, I overreact, I read too much into things and I get really worked up. I really need to learn to calm down, be more patient and just take things as they come.
I love plans and sure things, but not everything is always sure and defined. I’ve got to learn to take things slowly and work through them as they appear. This is my next goal to really work on.
